A Bedtime Drink to Soothe Your Gut This Summer
Summer is the season of fire—long days, high energy, and for many of us, a little extra stress on the gut. Between travel, late nights, indulgent meals, and more heat in the body, it’s not uncommon to feel a little bloated, inflamed, or “off” during this time of year.
As a practitioner, one of the most common things I see is how much the gut influences the scalp. But I also believe gut healing doesn’t have to feel clinical or overwhelming. Sometimes, it’s as simple as creating a calm moment at the end of your day.
So I wanted to share a simple nighttime drink that I personally use and often recommend to clients—especially in the warmer months. It’s cooling, calming, and supports digestion, cortisol regulation, and restful sleep.
Summer Bedtime Gut Soother
A gentle, nourishing tonic to support digestion and calm the nervous system.
You’ll need:
1 cup warm unsweetened almond milk or A2 milk
1 tsp ground slippery elm or marshmallow root powder (for gut lining support)
½ tsp ground cinnamon (to support blood sugar and digestion)
½ tsp ashwagandha powder (for stress/adrenal support)
1 tsp raw honey or coconut nectar (optional, but soothing)
A pinch of cardamom or fennel for extra cooling properties (optional)
Instructions:
Warm the milk gently (do not boil).
Stir in the powders until well dissolved.
Sweeten to taste and sip slowly before bed.
Why This Works:
Slippery elm & marshmallow root coat the gut lining and reduce inflammation.
Cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar and reduce digestive sluggishness.
Ashwagandha supports the adrenal system and may help lower nighttime cortisol spikes.
Fennel & cardamom are great for post-dinner bloat and summer heat.
It’s a drink that feels like a ritual—nourishing, grounding, and simple. And when paired with a quiet moment (maybe dim lights, a good book, or a warm shower), it can gently reset your system.
Remember: the gut doesn’t just want probiotics and bone broth—it wants consistency, calm, and small acts of care. This is one of them.
Let me know if you try it—I'd love to hear how it feels for you.
With ease,
Rebecca
